Emma Gabriel I have been working with children and families for 13 years, I started out as a nursery nurse working with children who had additional needs and complex medical conditions. I then went on to manager a nursery specifically for children with additional needs. I have managed a play centre for children aged 4-13 years who have additional needs and or display challenging behaviour. After 10 years supporting children I decided to change carer and became a child and family support worker for a childrens charity. I worked closely with social care and other local authority services, to support families who were going through challenging times.
Many of the families I have worked with had children with an additional need or children who displayed challenging behaviour at home and school and were at risk of exclusion. I have run many successful groups for parents and children, these include Incredible Years parenting program, strengthening families strengthening communities parenting program, A self esteem group for parents , a community group work program for women and children affected by domestic abuse, an anger management group for children and a dads evening parenting program. During these groups I have often been able to support families with multiple challenges in their lives or forward them on to an agency that is able to support and guide them through their challenges.
